Taylor Industries: What We Are About

A Mission Statement of Taylor Industries

The mission of Taylor Industries is to create a network of worker owned co-operatives that are self sustaining in their ability to govern, establish, and maintain parallel infrastructure and parallel supply chains (What is to be considered a "Parallel Network"). What is of note is that there is no intention to directly establish these co-operatives, instead, Taylor Industries hopes to supply the means of creating the networks and hardware needed for these organizations to thrive in the face of changing enviromental and economic conditions.This is to be accomplished in 3 phases;

Phase 1: A Self Sustaining Hobby

Identified as the means to continue research involved in how to create the foundation of the Parallel Network. While it seems obvious at first, a mistake that has been made previously is to attempt to build this foundation by first starting off as a company attempting to achieve profitability, instead of naturally growing from the realm of a hobby. This removes the pressures found in the "Business side of things", worrying less about growth of financial capital and instead focus on growth of industrial capital, and resources for those wanting to follow in my footsteps, allowing for a natural growth and transformation from hobby, to proffesion.

Completion of Phase 1 will be found in both the completion of what has been named the "Truck Shop", and in the successful development of Taylor Industries into a service based in offering design and fabrication to those that are unable to do either (Called "Taylor Industries Design and Fabrication", or TIDF). The reasoning is that the Truck Shop will allow for development and production to continue without the need to rent or own property, allowing financial capital to be saved and used either for personal use, or for expansion of Taylor Industries. With regards to the development of TIDF, details of the service has been outlined in the "Commissions" page of the website. This has a good chance of not working, and may need to be changed to something else to make sure that funding for TI projects continues. Because of this, the largest obsticle is simply proving commercial viability, even if there is none directly present. As such, it will be important to develop a way to conduct services cheaper than consumer prices, while also letting consumers know that "Made for You" manufacturing is, indeed, more attractive.

Once both of these tasks, the creation of the Truck Shop and the development of TIDF, it will be considered that Phase 1 has been completed, and Phase 2 will begin.

Phase 2: From Hobby to Proffesion

The goal of Phase 2 is to take Taylor Industries from the status of a sole proprietorship to a Co-Operative. This is broken down into 3 sections: The creation of The Parallel Network, development of easily producable industrial capital, hiring of employees.

As mentioned above, The Parallel Network is the network of supply chains and infrastructure that is parallel to existing supply chains and infrastructure. The function of The Parallel Network is to act as a hub for the organization of labor, and end user. In these early stages of Taylor Industries, The Parallel Network should first be developed by deploying it internally for the organization of employees, resources, financial capital, and industrial capital. Monetization should be implimented carefully. Ideally by asking for an extremely small portion of transactions made using the network. Funds recieved from this network, gathered by TI, will be used to continue R&D, establishment of industrial capital for those that do not have the initial financial capital to directly purchase industrial capital, and to be used as a solidarity fund for any employees of Taylor Industries. This parallel network aims to dissolve the distinctions and abstractions that exist under current modes of political economy, with labor finally being able to caputre the entirety of it's value.

The development of easily producable industrial capital is to ensure that not only is industrial capital cheap to produce, but easy to deploy for anyone that wishes to do so, ideally with the bare minimum of initial industrial capital they would have on hand (For most, these would be hand and power tools). To paraphrase from "Wealth Without Money"(1); The goal is to make a mechanical virus the size of a truck bed, dubbed "The Truck Shop". Something that will be able to reproduce itself and the industrial capital requried for a modern standard of living, from raw materials gathered in the world. This is a remarkably lofty goal, and goes without saying that between the time of this writing and it's achievement, there would have to be a remarkably large amount of R&D. Regardless, this is achievable. To aid in future development of these tools and to expand it's resource base, TI will both the individual mechanisms of "The Workshop", or the entire package of "The Workshop", to those that aspire to reproducing the world envisioned in the article already mentioned, "Wealth Without Money".

Finally, phase 2 will be considered completed once a base of employees are hired. It is not in the hiring of individuals of itself that makes this goal important, but instead, it results in TI transforming from a sole proprietarship to a proper co-operative. By the hiring of employees, the ability for the company to govern independent of it's founder increases, allowing itself more autonomy, and ultimately bring about the completion of an internal social contract that allows for worker controls of their means of production.

Phase 3

Phase 3 is, ultimately, Phase 2 brought to it's logical conclusion. It seems easy to say "Phase 2 but bigger", but there really is no other way to express what Phase 3 is. The goal, for this, is to ensure that TI is able to reproduce itself physically, financially, and organizationally, to fill in for the holes being left by our current systems. Most importantly, however, is that the completion of Phase 2 and success of TI will be used as a basis for those that feel a certain uncertanty with our future, and seek a solution beyond electoralism or prayer to the invisible hand of the market. I personally hope that I find "Competition", those that take after this structure to build something collectively. Our material conditions are changing, and it is up to all of us to make sure we exit the other side of these changes as a changed, egalitarian humanity, otherwise we will not emerge on the other end as humans at all.

The Purpose and Future of This Website

This website can best be considered an organizational hub for many personal and professional uses, including documentation of products, showcase of products for sale, a place to post, and hopefully, the foundation for the network described above.
